Welcome aboard The Boarding Pass Travel Blog, your ticket to stories of travel, culture, and aviation. From the bustle of London Heathrow to the beaches of Mexico, from San Diego sunsets to Spanish tapas in Valencia, this space is where journeys and memories take flight.
The Boarding Pass is where travel, aviation, and storytelling meet. Through words and images, I capture not just destinations, but the joy of the journey itself. This is for curious travellers who want to feel inspired, excited, and seen in their own love of travel.
We are travellers, partners, and explorers at heart. Together, in our mid-40s, we live just outside London, with one eye on the city skyline and the other on the horizon. Over the years, our travels have taken us from the Falkland Islands to Brunei, from Oklahoma to Spain’s Costa Blanca. Along the way, we’ve discovered that the best trips aren’t always the smoothest ones, they’re the ones filled with unexpected stories.
We don’t travel light, and we don’t apologise for it. Cameras, iPhones, iPads, and even a drone often come along for the ride. Capturing the world matters to us — whether that’s a beach sunrise, the buzz of a city square, or a bird’s-eye view from above.
We love a touch of luxury, but we’re just as happy stumbling into an independent café or finding the perfect hidden coffee shop. Travel, for us, isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s about taste, texture, and the stories we bring home.
I’ve travelled from the Falkland Islands to Brunei, from Oklahoma to Kenya, and from San Diego to Spain’s Costa Blanca. My favourite three countries? Mexico, Spain and the USA. Each trip has taught me something new, about people, food, history, language, and those little quirks that make travelling unforgettable (The Boarding Pass Travel Blog founder, JW).

Living under the Heathrow flight path means planes are part of our everyday soundtrack. But this site isn’t just about destinations, it’s about the whole journey. Airport codes, flying hacks, airline quirks, cultural snapshots, and the thrill of stepping off a plane somewhere new.
Back in 1998, what should have been a three-day hop to Jamaica turned into a seven-day odyssey, thanks to several mechanical hiccups on a military aircraft. It’s these kinds of misadventures that make travel both frustrating and unforgettable, and exactly why I started The Boarding Pass Travel Blog (JW).
We’ll also share deep-dives into cities, coastlines, hidden food spots, and aviation oddities you didn’t know you needed to know. From San Diego’s Navy SEALs and Gaslamp Quarter to Valencia’s vibrant streets and the serene bays of Xàbia, expect a mix of history, humour and helpful tips, all with a traveller’s eye.
Whether you’re planning your first big trip, daydreaming about your next one, or just love the romance of flight, you’ll find something here to spark your wanderlust.
Travelling Can Be Fun and Writing a Travel Blog is Definitely Fun
And yes, there have been comedy moments. One of our first nights together was at the Radisson at East Midlands airport, where the bathroom windows were so big that switching on the light at 2am made the room glow like an A380 coming in to land. Privacy? Optional. Laughter? Guaranteed.
Then there was Barcelona airport, where we wandered leisurely before realising our gate was miles away. Cue a frantic march, passport control, and the surreal moment of overhearing an American couple ask security if they’d found the entrance to the American Airlines VIP lounge.
We’ve braved a prison-van-style bus to Heathrow’s budget car park (standing room only, one door, and no windows), and endured an English breakfast in Bournemouth with raw sausages, cold bacon, and an egg you could frisbee across the room. Not Michelin-starred, but certainly memorable.
What keeps us travelling is simple: the joy of exploring widely, eating well, capturing beauty, and laughing at the bits that go wrong. Our favourite countries? Mexico, Spain, and the USA — though anywhere new is an open invitation.
This is The Boarding Pass: a mix of stories, aviation quirks, city guides, coastal wanderings, food finds, and the occasional disaster that makes the best memories.
We travel as two, no kids in tow, just the freedom to follow curiosity wherever it leads. Welcome aboard.
